Launch your career in Biotech. AGC Biologics is offering a BioPath Internship Program that will provide a combination of theoretical training and hands-on floor work. Theoretical and practical activities include GMP basics/concepts, a general understanding of science, operations basics, and planned experiments.  They offer hourly compensation, plus school credit - approximately 180 hours per school year.  Applications open April 1 for the following school year.  Internship link will be provided once it is available.

Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Programs

The Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP) is an eight-week, full-time paid internship for rising 12th graders. Selected interns attend an orientation day, then begin the internship with one week of hands-on training on laboratory safety techniques and skills in the Fred Hutch Training Labs. The remaining seven weeks consists of supervised shadowing and training in a Fred Hutch host mentor’s research lab. Interns also attend weekly workshops and seminars and make a presentation during the final week. SHIP gives students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research the opportunity to explore, clarify, and strengthen their research-related career interests.We encourage all applicants to learn more about our research areas and scientific divisions. Applicants should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements (below) and we recommend assembling application materials early, even before the application opens.

Summer HungerCorps Associates help to fight food insecurity by helping families and youth access healthy meals during the summer. Members will deliver meals directly to families’ doors at an apartment complex, serve Grab and Go meals at a community center, or distribute groceries to families at a neighborhood food pantry. Training will be provided in site management, marketing, community engagement, and data tracking – meaningful skills that will both serve our community and be powerful on a resume. Service placements include Seattle, Tukwila, Renton, Auburn, East King County, Kent, and Federal Way.

Iacocca Global Entrepreneurship Intensive June 26 - July 23, 2022

Learn how to think like an entrepreneur and recognize problems as opportunities. Expand your leadership potential and global network. Join a group of emerging leaders from from across the U.S. and around the world. Work with a diverse team to solve a real problem facing a company or organization.

During this intensive summer experience from Lehigh University’s Iacocca Institute, international and U.S. high school students come together for dynamic learning opportunities, workshops and design labs, a team project with a real client organization, and visits to companies and start-ups. Students will select from focus areas like Sustainability, Technology, Population Health, or Marketing and Branding, with the unique opportunity to pursue a “deep dive” within the entrepreneurship intensive. The curriculum includes faculty from across the university and throughout the worldwide Iacocca Institute network, as well as collaboration with Lehigh’s Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation; Lehigh@NasdaqCenter; and the Mountaintop Initiative.

About the Iacocca Institute: For more than 30 years, the Iacocca Institute has been creating transformative, hands-on leadership experiences that develop and empower the next generation of global leaders. Collectively, its programs have hosted participants from more than 150 countries. It is part of Lehigh University, recognized among the U.S.’s premier research universities and located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Program Cost The program is $4250. This includes program fees, room and board, instructional materials, field trips, and all curriculum-related activities. Limited scholarships and discounts are available.

University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy 

Come spend four weeks on the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh exploring the world of health care. Through hands-on experiences, guest speakers, group discussions, team projects and presentations, simulations, and multiple site visits you will gain a behind the scenes look at the life of a health care professional. Students also gain an understanding of professional expectations and behavior.

Classes Six or seven Learning Teams are offered each summer with topics such as Introduction to Neuroscience, Alternative Medicine, and Hippocrates in Court. The topics vary each summer. The teams create and present two group projects. Students also take a Concentration Course which includes visits to local facilities offering services in the field. Past course offerings have included Global, Geriatric, Behavioral and Public Health.

Who can apply? Current high school sophomores and juniors who are at least 15 years of age at the time of application are eligible for the program. UPHCSA is open to U.S. and International students who meet the criteria.

Program cost A tuition fee of $3200 covers room and board, instructional materials, transportation for program field trips, and curriculum related social activities. Financial aid is available for qualified students. Families are responsible for transportation to and from the program, pocket money, and overages of the daily allotment for meals. VOLUNTEERS IN OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP
at the Brightwater Education Center Overview:

IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for campers entering 1 st grade through 6th grade at the Brightwater Education Center in Woodinville. Running from July through mid-August, these programs provide experiences which further IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship.

Position Summary:

Volunteers in Outdoor Leadership (VOLs) assist our staff in delivering educational programming for students in our day camp programs at the Brightwater Center in Woodinville. VOLs partner with a field group of campers for the week, serving as an extra set of hands and modeling excitement for campers. Duties can include logistical support around art projects, teaching short lessons, leading games, and overall working directly with campers and our staff to better learn about the world of environmental education. VOLs are meant to be support and are not responsible for delivering programming on their own, nor do they oversee the safety of campers. Ideally, VOLs commit to a minimum of two weeks of programming.

Qualifications:

• Status as a rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or recent high school graduate
• Interest in working with children in the outdoors
• Creative, flexible, and able to work closely with a Summer Programs Instructor
• Ability to work as a team member
• Strong work ethic, punctual, and dependable
• Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, children, and parents

Compensation: Although this opportunity is unpaid, VOLs can receive up to 80 hours* (up to 40 hours per week) of community service credit from IslandWood. *maximum hours may be dependent on your school

Medical Assistant Training Program located in Everett, WA. 

This is an accelerated training program, getting individuals trained as a medical assistant in 10 short weeks, followed by on the job training for up to 15 months, making the program about 18 months long. The classroom training will be hosted at one of our facilities in Everett, WA 98203 and then the trainees will be assigned to one of our clinics in the Seattle-Everett area for their on-the-job training.

No experience is needed, and the candidate only needs a high school diploma or GED to apply, and must be legally authorized to work in the US without restrictions. Start date is set for September 9, 2024 with a starting wage of $22/hour.
